How we check junkyard listings

The directory has 4,113 listings in three groups. Here's what each one means, and how to fix a listing.

Verified listings (511)

A listing is marked Verified when we've matched its name and street address, and its phone number when one is listed, against a page published by the business itself: its own website, or the official location page of the chain it belongs to (for example a U-Pull chain's or scrap recycler's location directory). The listing links to that page and shows the month it was checked.

Checked against a public directory (514)

These listings were matched against a public business directory page, such as a scrap-price or yellow-pages directory, rather than the business's own website. That confirms the business was listed there when we checked, but not that the details are current, so these pages say so and link to the directory we used.

Unverified listings (3,088)

The rest come from public business listings. Before adding them, we filtered out:

  • "Cash for cars" style lead-generation listings that aren't actual yards
  • Listings with no customer reviews at all
  • Towing-only companies, household junk removal, and recyclers that don't take vehicles
  • Duplicates of listings we already had

We haven't individually confirmed these yards are still open, so they're labeled unverified, and their pages suggest looking the business up before you go. We ask search engines to index a listing's own page only when it's verified, or checked against a directory and has a phone number.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment for listings or for placement.
  • We don't publish ratings or reviews copied from other websites.
  • We don't make up hours, phone numbers or services. If we don't know something, the listing leaves it out.

Fix, add or remove a listing

Own a yard, or found a listing that's wrong or closed? Send us the details. Include the business name, address, phone and website. We check every change against the business's own website or public records before publishing, and remove closed yards once confirmed.
