What affects its junk value

  • Age: at 20 years old, most of a 2006 TSX's value comes from reusable parts and scrap metal, not resale.
  • Weight: as a compact car, it weighs less than a truck or SUV, so its value leans more on parts than on scrap weight. See how scrap prices by weight work.
  • Catalytic converter: like all gas and diesel cars, it has a catalytic converter containing precious metals, one of the most valuable parts on a junk car. An offer assumes it's still in place. More on catalytic converters.
  • Recalls: NHTSA lists 3 recalls for the 2006 TSX. Open recalls don't stop you from selling or junking it.
  • Known problems: owners reported the most issues with the steering, typically around 119,000 miles. If that's what failed on yours, it can still be sold as-is.

Honda is recalling certain model year 2004 through 2008 Acura TSX passenger vehicles manufactured between september 25, 2002 and february 13, 2008. Prolonged high under hood temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely and may cause the hose to crack and leak power steering oil.

Risk: Oil leaking onto a hot exhaust pipe will generate smoke and a burning smell, and could potentially result in an under hood fire.
